Origin of National Cadet Corps (NCC) National Cadet Corps (NCC) was established under the Indian Defence Act, 1917 with the objective of meeting the shortage of the army. The origin of National Cadet Corps (NCC) is from 'University Corps'.When the Indian Territorial Act was passed in 1920, the name of the University Corps was changed to University Training Corps (UTC). And so again in 1942, the name of University Training Corps was changed to University Officers Training Corps (UOTC). In 1946, a committee was formed which sought to form a youth organization at the national level and the recommendations of this committee paved the way for the formation of NCC. The National Cadet Corps came into existence under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) National Cadet Corps Act 1948. The National Cadet Corps has been actively engaged in the noble task of preparing the youth of our country as physically and mentally capable citizens since its inception. The world's largest uniformed youth organization, NCC has over time established itself as a unique organization in 'nation building' and preparing the youth of our country. NCC has spread to every corner of the country and has more than 14 lakh cadets. Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. During wars, NCC has acted as the second line of defense and taken up the responsibility of civil security in the border area.
